All animals can be healed and comforted by Reiki energy. People are often amazed and happy with how quickly their loved animals respond to a healing session and the difference in the animals overall health and emotional well being. People often find that healings deepen the bonds they have with their animal companions.
I have used Reiki on my own little buddies Stella and Lucky and they just love it; including my fish Dragon. The other night Dragon came up to the top of the water and turned on his side so I could place my finger on his exposed side and give him Reiki. Lucky usually just lies down and starts purring and Stella sometimes comes up and nudges my hand with her nose when she wants a treatment.
Most animals love Reiki and often will seek it out on their own. It heals them on all levels and can be used for anything from pain reduction, accelerating their natural healing process, emotional stress relief, enhancing their well being, to healing after surgery. It is complimentary to any form of conventional medicine and in fact often helps what they are already getting as treatments; many times reducing side effects. The beauty of Reiki for animals is that it is one of the few healing techniques that cause no pain or discomfort whatsoever. For an animal that is passing, it is a gentle way to provide comfort, relieve pain, fear, anxiety, and ease the transition from this life. It also helps the human companion in dealing with the grief and letting go process. I highly recommend Reiki for animals with behavior problems or ones that have been abused as Reiki not only heals the physical but also the mental and spiritual level of the animal.
Animals’ understanding of this new healing energy sensation occurs at different speeds, just as humans. Some may take a little longer than others to get used to the experience, but after their initial introduction to Reiki they just relax and let go. Normally they become still and take the energy in. Many times they will position their body to show me where they would like me to place my hand.
In cases where the situation does not allow for direct hand placement distance healing can be used; either standing a distance from the animal or from a different location all together. The animal still receives the same quality healing. Reiki works outside of the limitations of time and space.
Sessions normally last about half an hour. When the animal has had enough they usually will stand up or move away.
